Reconciliation

City Council’s leadership model empowers all members of council to take a stronger leadership role in one of the 10 strategic priority areas, and Mayor Clark’s area is Reconciliation, Inclusion and Diversity.

The work within this priority area is collaborative, involving many organizations, involved citizens and community partnerships. With all of the work happening in this area throughout the community, Saskatoon is making tremendous strides and helping to lead the way in reconciliation.
“In Saskatoon, we must create a more inclusive community that not only embraces diversity, but that draws strength from its diversity and all of the peoples that comprise it.”

Through the leadership of the Office of the Treaty Commissioner, the City of Saskatoon and over 100 organizations that have since joined, the Reconciliation Saskatoon group is helping to move our community forward on the path towards reconciliation. This collaborative group is making space in Saskatoon for this valuable work and is helping to create a community where everyone can find success.

However, work remains in this area. The calls to action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada remain as relevant and important today as they were when they were announced. In Saskatoon, we must create a more inclusive community that not only embraces diversity, but that draws strength from its diversity and all of the peoples that comprise it.

City Council—through a motion made by Mayor Clark—has also moved forward on addressing the Calls for Justice of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. By being deliberate and courageous, we can work to build a stronger community for everyone.

Through working collaboratively with our partners in Reconciliation Saskatoon we will continue to play our part in this important work. The future success of our community depends on us getting this right.
